Veteran sportscaster Carolyn Waldo to co-host new Bell Media sports series by SKYCRON.com
Carolyn Waldo, Olympic double Gold medallist and veteran CTV sportscaster joins the new Bell Media sportsmagazine show, GO/NITRO, as co-host. Waldo, whose iconic career spans over 25 years covering sports in Ottawa, was also national colour commentator for the Olympic Games. GO/NITRO, produced by Ottawa-based SKYCRON for Bell Media, is a revolutionary new sports television series that takes you behind the scenes of your favourite athletes.
In each episode, host Emily Fulford, a hockey goalie and OHL broadcaster, teams up with Olympian and sportscaster Carolyn Waldo to learn sports they’ve never tried.
The show has attracted a number of major athletes, including Indy 500 racer Alex Tagliani, NASCAR champion Scott Steckly and Maria Toorpakai-Wazir, a squash prodigy whose New York Times-bestselling biography on her escape from the Taliban to train in Canada, gives Emily a spirited lesson on the court.
“Sports are for everybody,” says Waldo. “Even the biggest champions had a first day. There’s always something to learn.”
Waldo will co-host the series, as well as providing expertise consulting on the show’s content.
The show is a high octane, Discovery Channel-style show. “We show the hard stuff,” says series producer Cory Carlick. “You get to see how cool it is to be your favourite athlete, but you also get to see how hard they work to get there — by making us do the same stuff they did.”
Two seasons are already in production. “We are thrilled to be able to have Carolyn as a member of our team,” says Carlick. “She’s the best of the best. She’s got great chemistry with Emily.”
The show is currently airing on Bell Media’s Fibe TV1, with an announcement for additional broadcasters to be made shortly.
